ABOUT US

Glaze is the brainchild of Debbie Oetgen. An artist and businesswoman, Debbie, is internationally known in the field of Microwave Kilns and glass fusing. In 2009 she introduced microwave kilns to New Zealand and opened an online store, glaze.co.nz to sell kilns and to facilitate her teaching.

Now Glaze has been passed to Garth and Candace Righton.

Candace, a Californian school teacher, was inspired by the artists and the amazing beauty of New Zealand whilst on vacation. So, she packed up her dog and life and moved to Christchurch in 2003 and studied with the Silversmith’s Guild of Canterbury. After meeting husband Garth and having children, she embarked upon beading and silver wire work that didn’t require saws and blowtorches in the house. Candace then started working with polymer clay and enjoyed experimenting with all of the possibilities of blending the clay and applying inks, mica powders, resin, shells, beads, glass and glitter.

Candace’s current adventure is exploring and developing her skills in glass and art silver clay.

Garth, once a local government office worker, an erstwhile student pilot, laboratory analyst, and chef, now operates Glaze with Candace with enthusiasm. Also a student of Silversmithing, Garth is heading into the world of glass and art metal clay, and looks forward to working with all facets of the art glass and art metal clay industry of New Zealand.
